Raila Odinga names Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate, ushering a historic moment in Kenya and empowering women, who are 51 percent of Kenya's population. The nomination, however, sent Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka packing, protesting and launching his own presidential bid. In his shadow cabinet line-up, Odinga offered Musyoka a chief minister position, similar to the position Deputy President William Ruto offered ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
It's time for a woman to hold the number two position in Kenya. Karua has the academic background and government experience to help lead the nation and she is not corrupt. Karua has also shown she is willing to campaign fearlessly for Odinga in the Mt. Kenya region. Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka appears not to fully vested in Azimio and naming him running mate could lead to another disastrous rogue Deputy Presidency scenario as Uhu-Ruto.
The move ends weeks of speculation that she was considering joining Deputy President William Ruto to be his running mate. It also denies Ruto a top-tier surrogate from the Mt. Kenya region.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka joined former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on stage in a show of unity naming Odinga Azimio la Umoja's flagbearer.
Speaking mainly in Dholuo, Raila explained his 10-point plan to the adoring home crowd and accused his opponent Deputy President William Ruto of stealing public funds to boost his image through lavish harambee donations.
