Tiwa Savage Files Police Petition Against Davido Over Alleged Threat to Life
Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage has filed a petition with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, accusing fellow Afrobeats superstar Davido of threatening her life. The alleged threat allegedly arose from a social media post featuring Davido’s estranged baby mama, Sophia Momodu.
According to the petition, Savage claims that on December 23rd, she posted a picture on her Instagram story with Momodu. Soon after, Davido contacted her manager, who works for both artists, with angry messages. He reportedly accused Savage of “taunting” him and using “disrespectful, malicious, and derogatory” language.
Savage states in the petition that she attempted to address the situation directly with Davido, citing prior friendship and support shown to him and his daughter, Imade. However, the conversation allegedly escalated, leading to calls and messages from mutual connections on Davido’s behalf.
These connections reportedly conveyed warnings from Davido, stating he was “upset” about Savage’s friendship with Momodu and threatening to “f**k [her] up” if she did not “be careful in Lagos.”
Expressing fear of potential “online and offline harassment,” Savage requested police intervention and accountability. She stated that in the event of any harm to herself or her family, she holds Davido “responsible.”
This development follows a recent public rift between the two singers. On January 6th, fans noticed that both Davido and Savage had unfollowed each other on Instagram despite previously exhibiting cordial relations. Their children also attend the same school and have been seen together on numerous occasions.
Leaked screenshots of alleged private messages on Instagram further corroborate the tension. In one exchange, Davido reportedly warns Savage not to mention his son, followed by Savage’s angry response threatening physical confrontation and invoking divine punishment.
The controversy has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music scene and social media, with bloggers actively sharing leaked messages and speculating on the underlying reasons for the conflict. While details remain unclear, the police petition and leaked messages suggest a growing rift between the two prominent artists, potentially fueled by personal and professional complexities.
The Lagos State Police have yet to officially comment on the petition.
