Former South African women’s national football team captain Portia Modise was hijacked outside her home in Soweto last weekend. The shaken star took to Instagram to plead with the public for help finding her stolen car.
In a video clip, Modise recounted the ordeal, stating she was held up at gunpoint by a group of young men who took her phone, car keys, and drove off with her blue Volkswagen Polo Golf.
The Portia Modise Foundation confirmed Modise was unharmed but understandably distressed by the incident.
Modise, a legend of African football having been the first player to score 100 international goals, retired in 2015.
Modise’s hijacking comes just months after the tragic death of young footballer Luke Fleurs, who was killed during a hijacking at a Johannesburg petrol station in April.
