Somali has elected a new president.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud defeated the current president Mohamed Abudallahi Farmajo by a vote of 214 to 110 votes.
The vote was only open to Somali MPs dues to security concerns, and a total of 327 votes decided the outcome.
Mohamud, 66, is the former president of Somalia ruling from 2012 to 2017.
He defeated Farmajo in a vote held an airport hangar protected by blast walls, out of fear Islamists might attack and disrupt the election process, according to Reuters.
Somali is facing security challenges from groups such as al Shabaab, that Mohamud now has to tackle in addition to rampant corruption. He will be taking over a nation that is suspicious about the government.
