Ruto & Judiciary Shake Hands & Pledge to Crush Graft
In a historic move signaling a united front against corruption and a commitment to improved service delivery, all three branches of Kenya’s government – the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary – Monday pledged to collaborate and develop comprehensive anti-corruption strategies. This follows a crucial meeting convened by President William Ruto at State House Nairobi today, aimed at addressing the ongoing schism between the Executive and the Judiciary.
The meeting, attended by key leaders from each branch, acknowledged the pervasive threat of corruption and its detrimental impact on Kenya’s development potential. Recognizing the urgency for transformative action, all parties committed to stepping up efforts in fighting corruption, enhancing service delivery, and upholding justice.
In a joint communique issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, the branches outlined their commitment to individually develop policies, guidelines, regulations, and legislative proposals to achieve shared objectives.
These proposals, designed to tackle corruption, improve service delivery, and ensure institutional accountability, will be presented within 30 days to a National Council of the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) forum chaired by Chief Justice Martha Koome. The forum will then formulate a comprehensive roadmap with immediate, medium-term, and long-term action plans.
Further demonstrating their commitment, the Executive and Legislature pledged to support the Judiciary’s request for additional budgetary allocations. This includes provisions for recruiting 25 judges for the High Court and 11 for the Court of Appeal, as well as resources to complete the judiciary’s vehicle leasing program for improved transportation needs.
President Ruto, the Legislature, and the Judiciary reaffirmed their unwavering respect for the rule of law, institutional independence, and adherence to court decisions.
Raila Dismisses Rift Claims in Azimio
Facing whispers of discontent within his ranks, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga forcefully rejected claims of a looming disintegration, vowing to continue the fight for “liberation” and accusing the media of irresponsible reporting.
Speaking during the commissioning of a water project in Lamu County on Monday, Raila dismissed speculations of a major fallout triggered by presidential ambitions within the coalition. “There is no danger of Azimio collapsing anytime soon,” he declared. “The leadership of Azimio is intact, there is no dissension anywhere.”
He attributed the rumors to a few defections of individual MPs and pointed the finger at the media. “You see a banner headline in a very senior media outlet in the country,” Raila said, accusing some outlets of “irresponsible journalism” and spreading “despondency” among coalition members.
His remarks come against the backdrop of reported tensions within Azimio, fueled by the presidential aspirations of figures like Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa. Both men have openly considered contesting the 2027 polls, potentially challenging Raila’s own future candidacy.
Despite acknowledging these internal ambitions, Raila emphasized the coalition’s continued unity and resolve. “We have stood firm,” he asserted, “Azimio is on a course of liberation in this country from tyranny and irresponsibility.”
