Ruto Meets Jalang’o & Other Expelled ODM MPs
The five ODM MPs who were expelled from the party last week met with President William Ruto at State House on Wednesday. The meeting, whose agenda was not immediately clear, took place just a day after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) issued interim orders restraining the ODM Party from expelling or de-whipping the MPs. The orders were issued after the MPs filed a petition challenging the disciplinary action taken against them by the ODM party.
The five MPs, who have been dubbed the “renegade MPs,” are Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Felix Odiwuor ‘Jalang’o’ (Lang’ata), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda. They were expelled from the party for allegedly engaging in activities that were contrary to the party’s constitution.
The meeting between the MPs and President Ruto was a sign of the growing rift between the ODM Party and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance. The Kenya Kwanza Alliance coalition is led by President Ruto. The ODM Party is a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, which is led by Raila Odinga.
The meeting at State House was seen as a way for President Ruto to woo the renegade MPs to join his camp. The MPs are all from strongholds of the ODM Party, and their defection could be a significant blow to the Raila-led party.

Sean Cardiovillis, a renowned sports journalist and commentator who passed away on September 9, 2023, was cremated at a private family event ceremony at the Hindu Crematorium in Kariakor, Nairobi, on Thursday, in accordance with Hindu customs.
The motorsport enthusiast, who had a decades-long career as a sports news presenter at Capital FM, had been struggling with ill health for the past four years, frequently in and out of hospital.
Following his cremation, his family has announced a memorial service to be held on Friday next week at the Consolata Shrine Catholic Church in Westlands, Nairobi.
President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua were among the many who paid tribute to the journalist, lauding his “brilliance and passion” in the media industry.
South Sudan Stuns Harambee Stars With Historic Victory in Nairobi
South Sudan earned a historic 1-0 victory over Kenya in an international friendly at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani on Tuesday evening, the youngest African nation’s first ever win over their neighbors in Nairobi. Ugandan-born Titto Okello scored the winner.
The result was a major upset, as Kenya had defeated Qatar 1-2 in Doha last week.
Kenya struggled to create chances against a well-organised South Sudan defense, and Okello’s goal was the only one of the match.
Coach Engin Firat made a single change to the team that started against Qatar, bringing in Brian Mandela for the injured Johnstone Omurwa.
However, Okumu’s mistake early in the match led to Okello’s goal.
Kenya responded with a flurry of attacks in the second half, but South Sudan held on for the win.
Firat made several substitutions in the second half, but Kenya could not find an equaliser.
