The Kenyan State Department of Diaspora Affairs is stepping up service delivery to Kenyans living in the US.
With a simple message posted on its website and social media, the Department asks Kenyans to complete a simple questionnaire stating the consulate services they need, and they’d schedule a mobile crew to come to them.
“Kenyans in USA! We are planning to bring mobile consular services to your doorstep in March 2023. Please let us know what services you need, and where you are to help us plan our resources, #hudumamajuu,” reads the sign.
The 10-point questionnaire is easy to complete and submit and makes it possible for Kenyans to seek government services from the comfort of their homes.
Services to be provided include:
- New Passport Application
- Passport renewal
- Kenya National ID application
- Birth Certificate application
- Authentication of Documents

Kenyans have welcomed the move and shared their views on Twitter. Some have praised the Diaspora Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu. The new PS has struck a cord with diasporans and seems to connect well with Kenyans abroad.
“Roselyne Njogu: you are a lady of real action. Good start!” Peter tweeted.
But while Kenyans in the US are happy with the move, diasporans in other countries are waiting their turn.
“The Ministry should also give a thought to Kenyans in Mexico who are served by the Embassy in DC! Border and visa restrictions come in the way of accessing consular services in DC!” Maina wa Mutonya tweeted at Njogu.
Despite the questions, the general consensus appears to welcome the move and want it spread to their locations.

Hundreds of Passports Awaiting Collection
The Consulate has also announced there are 700 passports in its possession, ready for pick up.
“We have received over 700 passports that are ready for mail-out/pick up. If you applied for the Kenyan passport through our Kenyan embassy in Washington, DC, you should have received an email to notify you,” the notification partially said.
