The funeral service for Joyce Achieng Aoko, the Kenyan woman who died after a brutal attack in Albania that rendered her unconscious, is scheduled for Saturday, February 25.
“Joy shall be laid to rest on 25th February 2023,” Ruth Abongo, the mother to Aoko, said.
Aoko died at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital on February 13, just three weeks after she was repatriated to Kenya, after months in an Albanian hospital. Doctors at the Albanian hospital recommended transferring Aoko to another hospital because it lacked the capacity to provide her the specialized treatment she needed.
Kenyans worldwide rallied for Joy in an effort to raise enough money to pay for specialized treatment in Europe, but the effort fell short. The Kenyan government intervened and transported her to Kenya, where she died after 3 weeks of treatment.
Abongo said her daughter’s remains would be transported upcountry for burial in Gem Matumbu area, Sihonga village.
