Harambee Stars Reign Supreme, Securing Sh2.5 Million Bounty for Seychelles Thrashing
In a resounding display of national pride and sporting prowess, Kenya’s Harambee Stars emerged victorious from their encounter with Seychelles, securing an emphatic 5-0 win and a well-deserved Sh2.5 million bonus from Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba. This triumph marks a significant milestone in the team’s quest for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
From the very outset, Harambee Stars demonstrated their dominance, with captain Michael Olunga finding the back of the net in the third minute, setting the tone for the match to come. Olunga’s clinical strike was swiftly followed by another, doubling the lead just three minutes later, sending shockwaves through the Seychelles defense.
As the first half drew to a close, Masoud Juma further extended Kenya’s advantage, netting a goal that sent the team into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead. The second half proved to be equally decisive, with Rooney Onyango and Benson Omalla adding two more goals to the tally, sealing a resounding 5-0 victory.
This historic win against Seychelles has rekindled the team’s hopes of securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Ababu, who had promised the team financial rewards for positive results, delivered on his promise, rewarding the Stars with the Sh2.5 million bonus. He took to his X platform to congratulate the team, writing, “Hongera boys. Sh2.5 million pap!”
The Sports Cabinet Secretary’s support for Harambee Stars extends beyond monetary rewards. He has also ensured that the team travels in comfort and style, chartering a private aircraft for their crucial away matches in Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire.
JKIA to Get a New Terminal in Three Years
In a move to modernize Kenya’s aviation sector, the government has unveiled plans to construct a new terminal at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) within the next three years. This ambitious project, part of a Public Private Partnerships (PPP) model, aims to address the airport’s infrastructural constraints and enhance its capacity to accommodate growing passenger traffic.
Addressing the Senate plenary Wednesday November 22, Roads, Transport, and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen outlined the timeline for the project, indicating that the tender process will commence on January 15, 2024. With the aim of securing a suitable contractor by June 2024, the government expects to have a fully operational terminal within the next three years.
The need for a new terminal has become increasingly evident in recent years, as JKIA struggles to keep pace with the demands of a rapidly expanding aviation industry. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna aptly highlighted the challenges faced by passengers, particularly during the rainy season when they are forced to walk a considerable distance from the drop-off point to the terminals.
Murkomen acknowledged these limitations, emphasizing that the current infrastructure is unable to adequately accommodate the growing number of airlines and aircraft operating at JKIA. The construction of a new terminal, he asserted, will alleviate these issues and provide a more seamless and efficient travel experience for passengers.
This development aligns with the Kenya Airports Authority’s (KAA) recent announcement regarding a comprehensive infrastructural overhaul at JKIA. In a statement released in November, KAA outlined plans to expand the passenger terminal, increase runway capacity, and provide additional aircraft parking bays, commencing in the financial year 2023/2024.
The impetus for these improvements stems from growing public concern over the airport’s deteriorating infrastructure. In November, a viral video capturing roof leakages at JKIA sparked widespread apprehension among travelers. Additionally, a power outage during the same month further highlighted the need for enhanced reliability and resilience at the airport.
American Paedophile Faces Trial for Defiling 3-Year-Old Girl in Machakos
Terry Ray, an American national with a checkered past of child sexual abuse, has once again found himself in the clutches of the law, this time facing accusations of defiling a three-year-old girl at Great Wall Gardens in Athi River, Kenya.
Terry’s latest brush with the law comes on the heels of his release from Kamiti GK Prison in November 2022, where he had been serving a 50-year jail term for taking and circulating videos of minors in nude and compromising positions. His release was ordered by Justice J.M Bwonong’a, who deemed a retrial as “unfair and oppressive.”
Despite his previous conviction and the severity of the current charges, Terry pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault and being in the country illegally. However, trial magistrate Barbra Ojoo denied him bail, citing his fugitive status and previous criminal record.
The court dismissed the defense argument that Terry’s elderly age and alleged medical needs warranted bail, stating that no evidence had been presented to substantiate these claims. Terry’s case will be mentioned on November 27 in preparation for a hearing.
