Governor Kawira Mwangaza of Meru County Wednesday officially announced her affiliation with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, and called for unity among Meru’s political leadership.
Governor Mwangaza’s formal induction into the UDA fold was marked by a warm reception at the Hustler Center in Nairobi, where she was welcomed by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala and Chairperson Cecily Mbarire. Governor Mwangaza reiterated her dedication to fostering reconciliation and collaboration with all stakeholders in Meru County.
“Meru is bigger than all of us. Meru is bigger than any other leader. So it is my prayer that we can work together with every leader,” said Governor Mwangaza.
With her sights set on the gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections under the UDA banner, Governor Mwangaza signaled her readiness to embark on a new chapter of leadership, guided by the principles and values of the ruling party.
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, who also serves as the Embu governor, urged Meru’s political leaders to prioritize reconciliation for the collective benefit of Meru County.
“I’m urging all politicians, especially the UDA MPs from Meru, and the UDA MCAs of the Meru County assembly, I want to urge them to open the door for dialogue, reconciliation, and healing for this great county of Meru,” said Mbarire.
Similarly, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala emphasized the importance of collaboration between Governor Mwangaza and Meru’s UDA representatives, to align their efforts with the party’s vision for a united and prosperous Meru County.
“We want to ask them to embrace the entry of the governor and they should work together as a team. That’s the aspiration of our party leader. Our party leader wants a united Meru. Our party leader wants a solid Meru County government,” stated Malala.
The governor’s decision to join UDA comes against the backdrop of significant political challenges, including two impeachment attempts fueled by allegations of misappropriation of county resources, nepotism, and abuse of power.
