A Kenyan police officer deployed under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti was injured during a security operation in the Kenscoff-Belot area on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. The officer, whose name has not been released, was evacuated for medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
MSS Spokesperson Jack Ombaka confirmed the incident, noting that medical teams acted swiftly to provide care. “The injured officer was immediately transported to ASPEN Level 2 Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and remains in stable condition,” Ombaka stated. He also expressed appreciation for the outpouring of goodwill from both Haitians and the international community.
Kenyan officers deployed to Haiti are operating in an environment of extreme instability. The Caribbean nation has been grappling with a deepening security crisis, with heavily armed gangs controlling vast territories, terrorizing civilians, and frequently clashing with security forces. The MSS mission, led by Kenya, was established to help restore order, but the challenges on the ground have proven formidable.
The dangers of the deployment became tragically evident last month when Kenyan officer Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai was killed in action on February 23, 2025. Kaetuai was shot during an intense operation in the Western Artibonite region, 92 kilometers north of Port-au-Prince, where Kenyan forces were engaged in direct confrontations with armed groups. His body was flown back to Kenya on March 10, ahead of his burial in Naserian Village, Kajiado County.
