Cape Town Is the Best Airport in Africa – Skytrax Rankings
Cape Town International Airport has soared to the top of the rankings in Africa, according to the latest customer survey by Skytrax, a prestigious consumer aviation ratings organization. This win marks Cape Town’s dominance as the continent’s leading airport for the year.
However, the global picture paints a slightly different story. While Cape Town reigns supreme in Africa, it sits at 54th place on the international rankings. This position reflects a downward trend compared to 2020, when Cape Town secured an impressive 23rd place globally.
Despite Cape Town’s global shift, South Africa remains a strong contender in African aviation. Durban and Johannesburg airports followed closely behind Cape Town, claiming the second and third spots in the continental rankings, respectively.
Further down the list, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia secured a respectable seventh place, while Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport came in tenth within Africa.
Starlink to Exit South Africa
Starlink, the satellite internet service backed by Elon Musk, will soon discontinue operations in South Africa, according to recent reports from local media sources. Users in South Africa were informed by the company that they will lose internet access by the end of the current month, following Starlink’s failure to secure necessary registration within the country, as detailed by the privately owned News 24 website.
This shutdown in South Africa follows a series of similar actions in neighboring regions. Earlier, Starlink halted its services in Zimbabwe after the national communications regulator issued a directive stating that the company was operating without authorization. The service was also cut off in the Democratic Republic of Congo last month, prompted by regulatory demands.
Additionally, operations were banned in Botswana when local authorities denied Starlink’s application for a license.
Despite its premium cost, Starlink has become a lifeline for many across Africa, providing dependable internet connectivity, especially in remote and rural areas where traditional local options are unreliable.
