The Ministry of Health Saturday offered reassurances that the Mpox outbreak declared last month remains contained, with no new confirmed cases reported in the past day.
Since the onset of surveillance, health officials have screened over 300,000 travelers, with Saturday’s tally reaching 21,350. While no suspected cases were detected among this group, authorities continue to monitor five new suspected cases identified within the country.
As of Saturday, August 17, a total of 29 suspected Mpox cases had been recorded, with 23 testing negative. The remaining six cases are pending confirmation.
One such case is currently under isolation and treatment at Vineyard Hospital in Kiambu County. The Ministry emphasized the importance of patient privacy, urging the public to refrain from sharing images of suspected cases on social media.
The Mpox outbreak was officially declared on July 31 following a confirmed case in Taita Taveta County. The patient has since recovered and been discharged. Contact tracing of 12 individuals yielded no symptoms within the 21-day surveillance period.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates to the public.
