2024 Safari Rally Starts in Naivasha
The World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally is set for a potential overhaul, with President William Ruto directing the Ministry of Sports to explore extending the event from three to five days. This move comes amidst a renewed focus on leveraging the rally’s economic potential.
President Ruto made the announcement during the flagging off ceremony for the 2024 WRC Safari Rally at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. He acknowledged drivers’ requests for a return to the rally’s historical five-day format.
The Safari Rally boasts a rich history, having been a grueling five-day competition in its earlier years. This grueling format earned it the reputation as the world’s toughest rally. However, in recent years, it has been condensed to a three-day event.
President Ruto emphasized the government’s desire to capitalize on the vast economic opportunities presented by the WRC. The extensive international media coverage surrounding the rally, he believes, serves as a powerful tool to enhance Kenya’s global image and attract tourists and investors.
“This will provide a major boost to our economy,” stated the President, outlining the anticipated benefits. Increased local business incomes, job creation (both direct and indirect), and a surge in tourism investment are all envisioned as potential outcomes of the extended rally. He mentioned catering, accommodation facilities, and various tourist services as sectors poised for significant growth.
The potential five-day will be a strategic shift towards maximizing the economic impact of the WRC Safari Rally. By extending the competition and attracting more visitors, the government hopes to inject billions of shillings into the Kenyan economy, with a particular focus on uplifting those at the lower end of the economic spectrum.
President Ruto’s Easter Message to Kenyans
President Ruto Friday conveyed a message of hope to the nation, during the Easter celebrations, encouraging Kenyans to reflect on the profound lessons encapsulated within one of Christianity’s most significant historical events.
Addressing the nation via social media, the Head of State implored individuals of all walks of life, both domestically and internationally, to join in the contemplation of enduring and universal teachings derived from the pivotal moment in the Christian faith.
“As Easter approaches, let us come together to ponder the timeless lessons derived from one of the pivotal events in the annals of our faith,” said Ruto.
Ruto stressed the solemnity of the sacrifices endured and the profound suffering experienced by Jesus Christ.
“With deep reverence, we recall the trials, tribulations, and ultimately, the crucifixion and death of Christ, recognizing the significance of His triumph over death,” the president said.
“Amidst the adversities that beset us, let us draw strength from the Easter message of hope, knowing that through perseverance and unwavering principles, we can surmount any obstacle,” affirmed the president.
“As we commemorate the selflessness exemplified by Jesus, let us be inspired to foster national unity and dedicate ourselves to the service of humanity,” concluded Ruto.
