King Charles Diagnosed with Cancer
Buckingham Palace released a statement Monday February 5 disclosing that King Charles III, 75, had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer. Following his diagnosis, the monarch will step back from public engagements but plans to continue state business and official duties remotely.
Charles, who ascended the throne in September 2022, received the diagnosis after undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate last month. While details regarding the specific type of cancer remain undisclosed, palace officials confirmed it is not prostate-related.
The statement assured the public that the King is “wholly positive” about his treatment plan and intends to return to full public duties as soon as possible.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the palace said. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
While his public appearances will be limited, Charles’ commitment to his state responsibilities remains undeterred.
The nature of the King’s illness and the expected duration of his reduced public role remain unclear. Buckingham Palace has promised to provide further updates when appropriate
