GSU Officers in Court Over Chinese Kidnapping
Three General Service Unit (GSU) police officers were arraigned in Mavoko Law Courts on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, facing charges related to the alleged kidnapping of a Chinese businessman in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
The officers, Fredrick Mwongela Mwololo, Samuel Mwiti, and Kimwele Musyoki, are accused of collaborating with another Chinese national and a taxi driver to abduct the businessman on January 8, 2024. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects intercepted the victim’s vehicle, cuffed him, and sped off towards Machakos along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
The motive? A hefty ransom. Upon reaching Mua Hills, the mastermind contacted the victim’s family in China, demanding an undisclosed amount of money. The ransom was reportedly wired to a bank account in China, and the victim was subsequently released.
However, the victim’s ordeal unfolded faster than the kidnappers anticipated. Panic-stricken, he managed to escape and reach Athi River, where he reported the incident to the DCI.
DCI sleuths quickly launched a comprehensive investigation, tracing the abduction back to Mombasa Road and identifying two vehicles of interest: a taxi and a KAN car. The taxi driver was subsequently arrested and both vehicles impounded.
Furthermore, investigations revealed that the mastermind behind the kidnapping was a former employee of the victim’s company and had been in close contact with the arrested GSU officers.
Currently, the DCI is seeking custodial orders to complete their investigation and intensify the manhunt for the main suspect. Interpol operations are also underway to apprehend the gang’s accomplices in China.
Blogger ‘Sniper’ Killers to Face Murder Charges
Two suspects will be arraigned in the Kiambu High Court for the murder of Meru County blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, alias Snipper, following the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)’s recommendation.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, the DPP stated that sufficient evidence exists to charge Vincent Muriithi Kirimi, alias Supuu, and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, alias Tali, with murder.
Sniper disappeared on December 2nd, 2023, and his body was discovered two weeks later. Five suspects, including Kenneth Mutua Gatiri (Gasigi), Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi (Pope), Franklin Kimathi (Dudu Ras), Timothy Kinoti (Timo), and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai (Tali), were later arrested in connection with the killing. They were apprehended on January 4th, 2024, in Meru town by detectives from the DCI’s Homicide Investigation Department.
A post-mortem examination conducted at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary revealed that Sniper died from strangulation. Dr. Johansen Oduor, the government pathologist, reported finding marks on Sniper’s neck and signs of oxygen deprivation. The examination also revealed fractured ribs and other injuries.
