Chief Justice Martha Koome Thursday expressed concerns after the government failed to release judge’s allowances for the last six months.
Justice Koome was speaking in Mombasa during the High Court Leaders Conference held on June 7. She said it is an embarrassment that despite the judges delivering their assigned duties, they have not been remunerated therefore killing their morale.
She also called on the judges to hasten the process of handling the backlog of cases saying over 84,000 are lying in the high courts, of which 19,000 have lasted for over three years.
“I also urge the High Court to fast-track implementation of the recommendations from the Corruption Risk Assessment as contained in the Report on Systemic Audit of Our Registry Operations by the EACC we launched last month,” CJ Koome said.
